As the nights draw in and the air indoors becomes drier due to central heating, it's important to adapt our skincare routine to accommodate the changing weather conditions.
One aspect of our makeup routine that often goes overlooked is the texture of our foundation.
Transitioning from a lighter foundation texture suitable for summer to a more hydrating and nourishing formulation is crucial for individuals with dryer skin. During the summer months, lightweight and oil-free foundations are often favored to combat the heat and excess oil production. However, as the temperatures drop and the air becomes drier, our skin tends to lose moisture, resulting in flakiness and dullness. This is where a change in foundation texture can make a significant difference.
Transitioning our foundation texture to fit the needs of dryer skin during autumn is crucial for achieving a flawless and radiant complexion. By incorporating moisture-rich foundations and adjusting our application technique, we can ensure that our skin remains nourished and protected throughout the season.
There are certain ingredients and components to look for in foundation products for dry skin during the autumn months. Here are a few recommendations:
Hyaluronic Acid: Look for foundations with hyaluronic acid as it helps to hydrate and retain moisture in the skin, preventing it from drying out further.
Moisturising ingredients: Foundations with shea butter, ceramides, or natural oils can help nourish and hydrate dry skin.
Dewy finish: opt for foundations with a dewy or luminous finish as they tend to provide a more hydrating and moisturising effect on the skin, compared to matte finishes which can accentuate dry patches.
Lightweight formulas: Look for foundations with lightweight and hydrating formulas to avoid any heavy or cakey textures that can emphasize dryness or flakiness.
When applying foundation for dry skin, try using a damp beauty sponge or brush to blend the product into the skin. This technique allows the foundation to seamlessly blend with the skin, avoiding a cakey or patchy finish. Additionally, applying a thin layer of hydrating primer prior to foundation can further enhance the longevity and overall appearance of the makeup.
Here are two favourites I know you’ll love too:
Skin Illusion, by Clarins
Now, I’m not normally a Clarins fan but the texture and finish of this one is great for my ladies with dry skin. It has a dewy finish and blends very well into skin. With 24 shades I think this is a dry skin girl’s new best friend.
NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation
This natural-finish pot of loveliness has me feeling confident that my ladies will still look flawless 12-14 hours after application. I love the effortless blending of this foundation. It has a medium coverage but you can always mix with your moisturiser to dilute if need be. Perfect for all day into night makeup.
