2024 is the year of adventure, say Richard Dash and Jamie Carter, the year you get to enjoy new experiences and new foods

It’s definitely a year for making new food and fun memories, in our humble, professional eater opinion. Thankfully for all of us, Cheshire and the North West are hosts to some of the most amazing foodie experiences you will find. Here are some events and experiences we’re looking forward to… See you there?

Summer Camp

An experience like no other. Something that will forever live rent-free in our minds and a weekend that ALL foodies and campers should try once in their life. Running for four long weekends through July, Summer Camp is a chance to escape. A chance to reset and recharge. Summer Camp is a small, intimate, inclusive luxury camping experience. It is about slowing down, about meeting new people, about learning new things. You’ll meet new friends and spend time with inspiring people.

And you’ll eat incredible food. Your dinner every evening is included in the ticket price and is cooked for you by a team of exceptional chefs.

The evenings are spent together with other guests in the Walled Garden where you can enjoy light entertainment, a bar and campfires to gather around as the sun goes down. We were lucky enough to join the camp in 2023. We still talk about it to anyone that’ll listen to us! This is a heads up to get your tickets now, because they did sell out last year.

We promise, you won’t regret it.

Wild Salt Community Cooking School

Having developed her own gut health problems in 2020, founder of Wild Salt, Esther Southern, realised she did not possess the knowledge or culinary prowess to provide her body the nourishment it needed to help battle her newfound health issues. She conducted extensive research to see how she could start her cooking journey and expand her skills. She stumbled upon Made in Hackney. After volunteering with them, Esther decided she would open Wild Salt Community Cooking School, a community cooking school based in Cheshire that provides free cooking classes and food education to communities that may not have access to this information.  a community cooking school based in Cheshire that provides FREE cooking classes and food education to communities that may not have access to this information, communities who live in social housing and who may have to access The Pantry (a local foodbank network).

The cooking classes are also for anyone who wants to learn how to make plant-forward meals they can cook with their families. Esther is on a mission to empower every person who attends to be able to confidently build a nutrient-dense, tasty plate of plant-based food.

Esther raises funds for her community classes through special supper club events, which are definitely worth keeping an eye out for, so keep your eyes on their socials for new dates and supper clubs as they’re released.

Three Wrens Gin - Gin School

Ok, so this isn’t exactly food, but there are fruits and botanicals in their gin, so it’s basically a smoothie… Right? Needing no introduction, Three Wrens Gin are a multi-award winning, family-owned gin distillery based in Combermere. If you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary for your afternoon, give this one a go. The Gin School experience is so much fun, we just had to include it.

Photo: Lost in Cheshire On arrival you’ll enjoy a welcome cocktail, then you’ll be shown to your mini copper stills for the day. You’ll then get an introduction by the distiller to explain the process. The gin tasting will be laid out for you to enjoy at your own pace. You then get to choose your own ingredients from their extensive botanical wall. Ingredients at the ready, youl head back to your stills to start making the gin. Enjoy some lunch and then finish up making your gin. Don’t forget your gift bags, make sure you book a taxi... you’ll probably need it. *hic*.

Tatton Foodies Festival

Chances are, if you love food, you’ll already know about this one and have your tickets safe in your inbox… but if you haven’t, allow us to introduce our favourite festival of the year. Framed perfectly by the breathtaking views of Tatton Park in Knutsford, the Foodie Festival runs from July 12-14 this year. The festival brings people from all over Cheshire together to celebrate their love of food. You’ll find live cooking demos, an artisan market, plenty of street food, a hands-on cooking school, a baking theatre, a drinks theatre and a huge stage for their live music. With a chef line up as exciting as its music line up, the Foodies Festival is fun for all of the family. We’ve been attending every year for some time now and we always come away ready to book next year's tickets.

Our top tip for attending food festivals: sharing is caring. It’s overwhelming trying to figure out which yummy stalls to hit, so our tip is to go with another foodie. Share each dish and make your way around together. Tickets are on sale on their website now, along with chef and music line up. See you there!
