Richard Dash reviews the food and entertainment on offer at Albert's Schloss, in Liverpool.

Albert’s Schloss have long been known as one of the most fun watering holes in Liverpool. It’s a place that knows how to put on a show and will always deliver a solid night out. Little did we know, Albert’s Schloss also serves up top nosh.

You’ll need to venture out during the week if you want a REAL show at Schloss. From Tuesday - Sunday they have live entertainment, and we can assure you it’s worth getting out of the house for.

Tuesday: Bertie’s Bandstand - an evening of easy listening with performances by local and national artists

Wednesday: Kunst Kabaret - dive into the darker corners of the performance world with cabaret

Thursday: Baby Grand Slam - one stage, two pianists, endless requests. A night where guests set the music agenda

Friday: Friday Frölich - kick off the weekend with their house band and interactive artistes.

Saturday: Pleasure Palace - the house bands reimagine your favourite classics.

Sunday: Sunday Service - enjoy roasts, grooves, gravy, and good times

On the show card for us? Baby Grand Slam. It appears it was also 'take your sister to work day' (sorry, sisters that didn’t get the memo), so I took my sister, Kim, for a drive out to Liverpool for this one, which might seem a little dramatic for a bite to eat, but if you fancy something out of the ordinary, I promise this is the one for you.

As mentioned above, the Baby Grand Slam features two pianists, a three-piece band, and songs selected by the crowd. Your lovely hosts will come tableside to drop off a pen and request card. Pick your song, and (im)patiently wait for it to be played on the big piano.

The fondue was SO good! Photo: Outsauced MediaThe fondue was SO good! Photo: Outsauced Media While we excitedly wait for our songs to be played, our food appears from the heavens right in front of our hungry eyes (music puns for a music night, had to be done...). The first thing we dipped into was the sharer fondue. A deliciously deep dish of melted cheese: Vacherin fribourgeois, Gruyère and white wine. Your dipping partners for the night: haus pickles, sourdough and new potatoes. This is something that only Albert’s (or an aaprès ski lodge) could pull off so well. So much cheese and SO many dippy bits. We actually stopped ourselves from eating everything because we were becoming noticeably full.

After a little singalong it was time for the main dish; Baron Burger for me, and the Tyrolean Schnitzel for my sister. The Baron burger is large and in charge, with a 7-ounce chuck, short-rib and smoked beef-fat patty, raclette cheese, bacon jam, crispy shallots and truffle mayo with a side of gravy. Dip or pour at your own pleasure.

The Tyrolean Schnitzel stood its ground and gave my sister a hard time finishing it. Picture this: giant, crisp chicken breast schnitzel with nduja, mozzarella, and parmesan. Because that’s not quite enough, here's a huge serving of spaghetti pomodoro. While it was a feat to finish, I’m told it was absolutely gorgeous.

Food comas aside, it wouldn’t be fair for me to write this review without shining some of the spotlight onto both the service and the entertainment for the evening. Our host Eleanor was sensational. She was fun, into the music selections, helped us navigate the menu and made us feel very welcome. Equally, the team on stage were phenomenal. We were in awe of the arrangements they created to reimagine our songs.

Hats off to everyone. What a night, what a vibe, and what a first day in the office that was for my sister.
