How to stay stylish even when it rains and win £1,000 to go shopping on us

Kent Life fashion expert Paula Fry says …

In the last few months I’ve felt a little like Mrs Noah….ready to scoop up animals, knock a bit of wood about and sail off into the sunset.

But don’t let the weather dampen your fashion spirits, as being wet and stylish is always possible, I’m just going to point you in the right direction.

Wet feet equals ruined shoes. If it’s cats and dogs outside, you need some wellie boots. Try brands like Hunters, Patrick Cox, Emily Hannah, Joules, Ilse Jacobsen and Wedge Wellies - all my favourites and all doing a great fashion twist on what can be the most boring but necessary of footwear.

Bling up your brolly! Umbrellas don’t need to be black. There is nothing more cheery than a bright pink or red umbrella shining out in a sea of darkness. Own it.

Speaking of colour, don’t forget the easiest way to brighten up on dark days is just by adding a scarf. Go for a bright, sassy colour or a pattern. You don’t have to spend a fortune, try Accessorize for value for money or Fenwick for some luxe.

Layer up - you never know if it’s going to be cold, think cashmere hoodies under your trench or mac, the hood casually hanging out the back. You can get some great quality ones (try Gap, Pure Collection, Boden, Brora).

Think PVC. We’re not talking S&M here, but if it’s pouring down, you probably don’t want to be wearing your softest leather jacket.

More hardwearing than leather and all over the catwalks last year, a little bit of PVC may just be what you need.

If you don’t want to go the whole hog with a trench, try a pencil skirt, making sure you wear soft fabrics with it to contrast and tone down.
