THE VENDOR SAYS:

When was the house built?

1745. It was originally called The Woolpack Inn.

How long have you lived in the house?

29 years, since we bought the house in 1994.

What first attracted you to it?

The house was on a cycle route that we used all the time and the ‘chocolate box’ look drew us in. It is in a beautiful peaceful setting, surrounded by fields and woodland. The Forest of Bowland is an area of Outstanding National Beauty which is totally unspoilt or changed which adds to its charm and beauty.

How have you changed the house?

The house was stuck in the 1970s when we bought it as a project. We wanted to transform it into a lovely, big family home but retain the period features. Over the years, we have extended it, with approval from English Heritage and opened up the space on the ground floor with a spiral staircase to the master suite. We have restored the older part of the house to its former glory but with modern elements, such as an open-plan kitchen with underfloor heating and oak flooring, but retained its period charm with the beams, mullion windows and original floors.

What will you miss most about the house?

Definitely the incredible space both inside and out. It is a family home, full of character and warmth, where our three children have been brought up to appreciate the beauty of the outdoors and yet the location is perfect. The house has allowed a growing family to spread out with an extra lounge and gym/playroom to host their friends and a large lounge, perfect for entertaining.

However, we have adored bringing our family up here and now they have flown the nest, it’s time to move on to a new project.

Describe the garden

The garden is south facing and enjoys the sun all day which was a huge draw when we first viewed the house. It is beautiful and varied, with space for our son to play football when he was younger, a wooded area and a gentle flowing stream. There are many areas to sit out and relax in the peace and quiet away from the stresses of the world. There is a stunning decked seating area overlooking the stream which has hosted memorable occasions, big birthday celebrations and barbecues. At the rear of the property is a pizza oven under a covered oak pizza hut.
