It may be November, but now is the time to book up for those special Christmas events. We’ve rounded up some of the best which are kicking off this month
Christmas Lights
Sunday November 24 sees Taunton come alive with a full day of Christmas cheer. Peruse the decorated stalls of the Christmas market, enjoy live entertainment, delicious foods and local drinks, festive music and funfair rides as Winterfest comes to town! Do stay in town for the big Christmas light switch on which takes place outside the Market House at 6pm heralding the start of the Christmas season.
Carols Around the Bandstand
Hosted by the Mayor of Taunton, Carols Around the Bandstand is a popular Taunton Christmas tradition. This free event takes place around the historic bandstand in Vivary Park on Monday December 9 at 6.30pm. It brings together local musicians and choirs to lead a rousing mix of traditional carols and modern Christmas tunes. Donations are welcome for the benefit of the Mayor’s chosen charity, Diversity Voice.
The Christmas Orchestra on December 12 at the Taunton Minster brings heart-warming tunes alongside popular sing-along classics in this festive venue. Relive nostalgic moments with compositions from iconic films such as Home Alone, Love Actually, The Holiday, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Muppet Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker, The Grinch, and Polar Express. Head to the The Castle for 6.30pm and join The Collegium Singers as they perform a medley of carols around the 18ft Christmas tree in the main hall.
Dinner is then called at 7pm as the corks on the champagne bottles will pop! £80 per person for a sumptuous 4-course meal (options include chestnut soup, octopus carpaccio, juniper roasted saddled of venison and a caramel & dark chocolate tart) followed by tea & coffee and a mince pie.
