Sussex as a whole is quite a beautiful county to enjoy a walk in, and with autumn now in full swing, there's no better time to go out and take one in.
The brisk clean air, the fallen leaves on the floor and the hazy sunshine all make it an enjoyable way to spend a morning or afternoon.
Whilst the concept of the walk alone might be enough for some people, the added benefit of there being a pub along the route is a nice sweetener to it.

Arundel River Circular

This 11.6-km circular trail near Arundel in West Sussex is considered to be a moderately challenging route, but if you have an afternoon to spare then it could be a good way to spend three hours.
It is described as a "picturesque trail" which starts in the town and goes through fields, forest and by the banks of the River Arundel.
The Black Rabbit Public House can be found on the route towards the final quarter of the walk, so can be a nice place to stop for a pint before you finish up.
Barcombe Cross, Anchor Inn, and Barcombe Mills Circular

This 9.7km route near Barcombe and Barcombe Mills is described as a moderately challenging route, which takes around two hours and ten minutes to complete.
It takes you across fields and along quiet country lanes, following the River Ouse to Barcombe Mills and visiting the village of Barcombe.
Just after the 5km mark you'll be able to find your pub on route in the Anchor Inn, which could be a good point to take a short break before carrying on.
The Bolney Stage and Wykehurst Park Circular

Starting and finishing at the Bolney Stage pub, this venue can serve as a nice reward once the walk is completed.
It encompasses a distance of 7.7km which explores the surrounding hills and valleys, with amazing views, and plenty of wildlife.
Dogs are welcome and may be off-lead in some areas.
Lewes, Black Cap, Offham and River Ouse Circular

This 11.7km circular walk takes around three hours to complete and will take you from the town of Lewes over the hills of Blackcap and Mount Harry before the River Ouse back into town.
There are some steep inclines, which can get quite muddy, so good stout footwear is advised.
Just after the halfway point when you get into the village of Offham you can find the Blacksmith Arms pub to have a quiet pint before continuing.
Devil's Dyke and Poynings Circular

There are not one but two pubs on this walk, which only takes around an hour and a half to complete.
The paths on the route are firm for the most part, but the sections through woodland can be very muddy after rain.
Additionally, the final stretch of path follows a narrow exposed ridge path with a steep drop to the side so take care on that section.
The first pub you'll find is in the village of Poynings which is called the Royal Oak and right near the end you'll also come across the Devil's Dyke pub if you want to save your pint until you've finished.
