The Calderdale Way - The Old Bridge Inn

It couldn’t be easier to stop off at The Old Bridge Inn for a pie of the day or selection of cheese to be washed down with a pint, as The Calderdale Way (a 50-mile route) passes by the front of this pub.

The walk has been described as “a haven for walkers” who want to explore the surrounding hills, moors and valleys by travel website Sawday’s.

Plus, it has “plenty of options to tackle in short stages”.

The website adds: “Stroll part of the route that encircles Hebden Bridge, following old packhorse trails, through the medieval hillside settlement of Heptonstall and part way along the banks of the River Calder.

To visit them, you need to board the X84 bus in Leeds which will drop you at Otley Bus Station where this impressive 10-mile walks begins (the good news is the X84 picks you up right at the end).

The Leeds List explains: “You can pop into the nearby Junction Inn for a pre-walk drink or get straight to it by heading along the old dismantled railway tracks. You’ll come across beautiful views as you pass Caley Hall Farm and Crags. Pause to take it all in, then head North towards Bramhope before you follow The Dales Way to the pretty village of Eccup.

“After a turn around the reservoir, nip into The New Inn for a quick pint, before you make your way back towards Bramhope, with a detour into the beautiful greenery of Golden Acre Park.

“The Fox and Hounds is ready and waiting with refreshments at the end of the route, and you don’t even have to head back to Otley because the X84 will pick you up at the bottom of the road.”

Ilkley Moor - The Cow and Calf, Friends of Ham, The Midland, the Ticket Office

You can also hop on board the X84 bus all the way to Ilkley Bus Station for a 6.3-mile walk.

This route is said to “show off some of Yorkshire’s most beautiful scenery” according to the Leeds List.

The website adds: “It’s just a short walk along Wells Road to reach the start at West View Park, where you’ll climb a small hill and join up with the Dales Way Link.
