The Devonshire Arms, part of the Bolton Abbey Estate, was built in the 17th century and the miles of footpaths and scenic views later created by the 5th Duke of Devonshire attracted poets and artists, including Wordsworth and Turner, and visits by the Royal Family.
In 1981, additional bedrooms were added, under the supervision of the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, and her personal touch is still evident throughout, with much of the artwork coming from Chatsworth’s Devonshire Collection, one of the finest private art collections in Europe.
